Short notice, but Janet Zeller is presenting a webinar on accessibility and travel management on the forest Sept 26.  Details below if you're interested.

Thursday, September 26  (2 to 4 PM Eastern)

A Double Webinar

Travel Management and Accessibility (2 to 3 PM)

Accessibility and Gates and other FS Restricted Passage (3 to 4 PM)

The fall hunting season is coming: What is required if a person who has a disability wants to drive their ATV on a route, trail or area not designated for that use? Both Subparts A and B of the FS Travel Management rule will be addressed. What about the Department of Justice Rule on Other Power Driven Mobility Devices under the ADA does that apply on Federal lands?

The second hour of this double webinar will address what is required for accessibility at gates on trails or roads and how to maintain the restriction and still allow accessibility.

The format will be 30 minutes of presentation followed by 30 minutes of live Qs and As on the first topic, followed by the same format for the second topic during the second hour.   Janet Zeller will be the presenter.

The primary audience for this webinar is anyone in the Forest Service who deals with issues related to travel management: the planning, recreational motor vehicle use on the unit or working with the public about their choices of recreation opportunities. Also those involved in the decisions and installation of gates on roads or trails.  All Forest Service employees are welcome. This session will focus on what is and what is not required based on disability.

To connectup to 10 minutes before the session:

Click you’ve connected your computer, phone connection instructions will be provided on the screen.

If you have any questions about this webinar or its content before 9/26 email them to Janet Zeller at

By now some of you should have seen the improvements to the www recreation sites for the forests.  If you haven't then I suggest you take a look at the recreation pages on the forests you know. Below is a screen shot with my highlights. In general I believe this can be a solution to many of our pressing recreation information challenges

The reservation service is asking for map information to validate their maps. We can coordinate this latest request so we can offer it to all those who are asking for this and do it only once.  I am gathering the R3 maps web locations and sending this back to the NRRS. I am also going to ask the forests to feed the CMS and then direct NRRS to get them from our web sites.

This image below was generated from the Content Management System (CMS). The forests gathered the maps and spent a lot of time  feeding the CMS.  Their locations are shown in the table above.

I suggest that we begin loading all our data through the CMS and have them feed, NRRS, Infra, NVUM, etc where possible.  All these information requests are too much duplication for our units to keep up.

I believe Recreation One Stop is asking for the samething too.

So I recommend that we form a group and explore our options to stream line this effort.  That includes finding out what Recreation One Stop is doing and helping them understand where we sit. Any one want to help? If so call me. 505-842-3443

Recreation Sites and Year End Reporting

We used the condition inspection form in conjunction with the real property inventory report for each site. This speeds up the condition in addition it helps with the data preparation for input into the Infra recreation sites database.

It is the most efficient way for people not skilled in using Infra.

Comment by Cyndee Maki on August 10, 2012 at 4:17pm

Deb, Have you looked at the survey report form in Infra?  It's pretty easy to use, but you may be looking for something different.

Comment by Deb Schoenberg on August 9, 2012 at 8:44pm

does anyone have a simple rec site condition survey form they can share?  Needs to be easy to use and easy to train to use.

Comment by Cyndee Maki on June 12, 2012 at 11:54am

Should have included a link to the combined file too, sorry about that.  Attachment 5 isn't posted on its own anywhere on the IBSC website, but it is in the combined file on the library page, along with all the other attachments.  The attachments can also be found in the Correspondence Database (still accessed via Lotus Notes).  Or you can send me an email/IM and I can send the individual attachment to you until the letter makes its through all the mailing lists.
